The church was built between 1862 and 1865, in the shape of a cross, with walls made out of stone taken from the buildings of the Roman strongholds in the area. In 1902 it was fully restored and modified. The walls were built out of bricks and a new roof was mounted, made out of galvanized blackboard.

Two towers were added, one in the center and the other above the veranda, where two bells of different dimensions were initially moved (1922 and 1928). A new belltower, with a metallic structure, was built in 2001.

The first picture dates back to 1912-1913 and the current one was done by Aurel Tudorie (from Galați) in the 1986-1989 period. A general rehabilitation of the church was done in the 1998-2001 period.
