The monument was built out of stone, through the public subscription of the residents of Calfachioi (currently, Viroaga) in the memory of the 49 heroes killed in the battles for the defense of Dobrogea in the Autumn of 1916 and during the First World War.  The monument has a stone socle, and a cross on the upper side.
