The “Child With a Turtle” Statue

Cornel Medrea (1888-1964) was one of the most important Romanian sculptures of the 20th century, author of numerous public forum works.

The Child With a Turtle statue was initially placed in front of the Sulina Hotel in Mamaia, in 1963. Nine other statues made by Medrea between 1956 and 1964, out of stone, bronze or chalk, were placed in the same resort, as part of a large scale program of the communist authorities for the improvement of the Romanian seaside.
