Cornel Medrea (1888-1994) was one of the most important Romanian sculptors of the 20th century, author of numerous bronze or stone public forum works. In Constanța, some other works by Medrea can be found, such as the Child with a Frog Statue, next to the entrance of the Art Museum of the city or the Fishermen Statuary, also made of stone, on the Casino Seafront.
In Mamaia, other nine statues made by Medrea were placed down between 1956 and 1964, made of stone, bronze or chalk, as part of a program of the communist authorities for the development of the Romanian seaside.
