The Fishermen Statuary

Good general condition. Rehabilitated in 2016.

  • Sculptor Cornel Medrea; year 1959; stone;
  • Casino Cliff,in the Elisabeta Boulevard area, at the corner with Constantin Brâncoveanu Street, a 1 minute walk away from the Casino.

The statuary portrays fishers pulling a trawl net out of the sea. It was made out of stone by Cornel Medrea.

Initially placed on the ground, the statue received a frame better for it’s symbolism in the shape of a water basin.

Cornel Medrea (1888-1964), correspondent member of the Romanian Academy, was one of the most important sculptors in the interwar and communist periods. He is the author of numerous statues present in the cities and museums of Romania.
