Built in an eclectic style, which combines the neoclassicism and utilitarianism of North American buildings from the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the power plant is one of the most important pieces of industrial architectonic patrimony in Constanța and the country. It is the only building of this type in the country and, in the beginning of the 20th century, it had the purpose of ensuring the energetic capacity of the harbor. It was inaugurated by King Carol the First and Anghel Saligny, the same as other modern features of the Constanța Harbor.
